St Wystan's Church Crypt
attraction7 Willington Rd, Repton, Derby DE65 6FH, United Kingdom
A rare survivor of pre-conquest architecture, this early 8th-century crypt features spiraling stone columns and a vaulted ceiling. It served as a baptistery, then a mausoleum for the Mercian royal family, and later as a shrine for St. Wystan. It was forgotten and rediscovered in 1779.
