About
One of the most scenic drives in the U.S., especially in fall, located nearby Ouray.
Why go
- Million dollar views, especially when the peaks and valleys are painted with gold in the fall
- Adrenaline + views from hugging cliffs with few guardrails
- One of the prettiest drives I’ve ever done
Must try
- Drive the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton
- Stop at Red Mountain Pass for the classic overlook
- Stop at Molas Pass
Pro tips
- Drive east to west for the best light in the morning
- Take your time — pull-offs and overlooks are plentiful
- Not recommended for RVs or large trucks unless experienced
- Use the marked pullouts. Do not try to take in the view while driving
- Insider tip: drive south from Ouray to Silverton so the drop is on the passenger side
Good to know
- Sheer drop-offs, narrow lanes, and mining-era engineering
- Steep cliffs, tight switchbacks, and panoramic views
- Not for those afraid of heights
