About
Temple where the body of Buddhist monk Luang Pho Daeng is preserved. The monk followed an extreme ritual of meditation, privations, and increasingly drastic diets to prepare for self-mummification. In the last phase, he had himself locked alive in a stone crypt, sitting in meditation without food or water, waiting for the end. If the monk's body was mummified, the ritual was considered successful. Today, he is venerated as an example of absolute spiritual discipline.
